NFTs have the force of historical necessity. If I may use the term so loosely, they are the Covidian (Aesthetic) Kunstwollen. I’ve heard several people remark that “no great art” emerged under or from Trumpism, but this fails to account for how Trumpism was, itself, part of a broader emergent art process we have yet to articulate as such. Nothing you don’t know already, though!

Yeah, I mean, I guess I'm calling 'historical necessity' the inevitability of an aesthetic digital tropology when you hook it up to the blockchain on a planet that isn't superhabitable. But 'necessity' is not the word I would use, even so. Let's say we *did* live on a superhabitable planet, so that there was time and space enough in which to NFT everything AND get things right for future generations, then yes, 'necessity' might sound ok. Like, it would be as if we were making a choice. I don't see this is a choice though, in present form, on *this*planet. It feels runaway.

Priapus was a tragic figure. The digitus is the ithyphallus, and, on my reading, 'necessity' is now the same thing as an error. It doesn't mean one can't spin out a theory of NFTs, but I'm not trying to do that here.

I'm saying 'no more', and this won't make any difference, and so I'm part of the troping, ofc . . .

Agree on Trumpism.

We don’t disagree. I have a Bataillean conception of NFTs. They are our Tenochtitlan, our profuse sacrificial altar, and very much in the subduction zone between Zivilization and Kultur or, rather, evidence of transformation from one to the other (this extends to crypto generally, Internet 3.0 is a fully new Form).

In this sense, historical necessity is mere consuming force that cannot be undone. There is no choice involved. It is an error, and perhaps a horror, but an irresistible one: in this case, consume and die (although I think it also will incentivise the adoption of more energetically astute solutions. Explosive growth eventually runs out of fuel, but in the process sometimes finds the way to make it).

Priapus is always tragic, and I mention him implicitly, as the Papposilenus, in my lecture on the Hyperbaroque. We have been thinking along kindred lines for so long. The penile/prehensile is the digit-all.

I am so sorry you have to live your daily life with this glossary bouncing around your mind. I couldn't read your whole article because it's too miserable. I hope you find a way to communicate with people. We love the jpeg. Get over it, take care of your friends and family, and live your beautiful life <3.

the NFT relies (re-lies) on the referential function, on that trip trap, mis-step, stumble, shuffle ... it points to the stack(ed deck), the pointer of Priapus distracting the upright-Walker so He falls into the spiked Hole ... there is only one meaning, one unique translation and I can and will sell this to you (just you) because I love you and we are all going to die!
